New name for old French territory

If you have read the book, Life of Pie, you know, Pondicherry.A new law has come into force in India changing the name of the federal territory of Pondicherry – which will now be called Puducherry. This reflects decolinsation of India, slowly but surely the names are changing to reflect the indigenous history of the region.

Pondicherry will be known as Puducherry, which means “new village”, was the original Tamil name before it was changed by the French.
