The London carnage has people (us) in the west and other peaceful
places asking- why are the terrorist doing this? Why dont they engage
in peaceful dialogues and engage in the social process? Are these terrorist animals? and ofcourse
then we have bushies calling them animals and savages (not helpful in diffusing the situation) who have to hunted down.
Now I want us to step into the shoes of the Arab and third world
citizens who are asking- why are the western countries meddling in our
affairs? Why is USA not willing to ratify any international treaty
(Kyoto, International Criminal Court etc) that hinders its economic
fundamentalist interests? OECD
countries in the name of economic growth (for their citizens) have
perpetuated imbalance and unfairness to 100s of millions in
Africa,Asia and middle east
I have no pity for the perpetrators of terrorism, but I refrain from
just using adjectives such as barbaric, savage etc. I think if we donot
move beyond these words and being to look at solutions (people to
people), things are not likely to improve.
